Join Our Team: GIS CAD Technician

An exciting opportunity for an experienced GIS CAD Technician to join and provide support to our multidisciplinary design and environmental consultancy team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertaking GIS analysis, advanced digitisation, data capture, data management, and geoprocessing;
  • ArcGIS, CAD & QGIS use to create a wide variety of maps, plans and technical drawings including but not limited to; phase 1 habitat maps, visual impact assessments, bat and badger surveys, arboricultural reports and landscape plans;
  • Developing new work processes and standards within GIS, and Identifying, promoting and advising on GIS and integrated solutions;
  • Upkeep and maintenance of ArcGIS Online customer facing web mapping;
  • Extracting and formatting of CAD/3D data into GIS formats and vice versa;
  • Spatial and temporal analysis of data / Analysing and processing data in Excel;
  • Analysing and processing of remote sensing data (including LiDAR) to produce 2D and 3D models in AutoCAD and GIS;
  • Working as part of a team, individually and with external clients to produce CAD and GIS deliverables to tight deadlines;
  • Preparing plans and presenting data via appropriate media;
  • Assisting with administrative tasks;
  • Communicating client requirements to other staff;
  • Performing quality assessments of any CAD/GIS outputs leaving the team;
  • Ensuring Urban Green data standards are adhered to including naming conventions and folder structures.

Essential Requirements

  • MSc degree in GIS and/or suitable experience;
  • Minimum 1 year working experience in a similar role;
  • Experience of working within the environmental industry;
  • Working experience of CAD, QGIS, ArcGIS & FME;
  • Full competency across the Microsoft Office suite;
  • Understanding and keen interest in mapping, wider environmental issues and IT;
  • Understanding of spatial data formats / spatial reference systems;
  • Aspirations to work on innovative schemes;
  • Initiative and drive, with a positive attitude and a proven track record of problem solving;
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to work under pressure to deadlines;
  • Enthusiastic and flexible approach to work;
  • Ability to work under your own initiative and as part of a team;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and able to work at all levels with colleagues and clients.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience of InDesign, MapInfo, REVIT and BIM;
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Ordnance Survey Datasets and other open source spatial data;
  • Ability to process data accurately and methodically;
  • Working knowledge of ICT issues, particularly relating to CAD and GIS systems / interoperability.
