We are a design and environmental practice who specialise in landscape architecture, urban design, landscape planning, arboriculture, ecology, biodiversity net gain and GIS.

Our teams work together to overcome challenges and provide clients with solutions and expert advice. We are driven by a shared desire to make a positive impact on people, places and the environment.

Based in Manchester, we work with clients and on projects across the UK.

Meet the team

Martin King Managing Director

Martin is a natural leader and designer with over 25 years' experience of leading a wide range of projects within the built environment.

He seeks to get under the skin of a project and use his commercial acumen to add value.

A keen eye for detail, art and brutalist architecture, Martin's real passion is his beloved VW Campervan.

Matt Taylor Director

Matt leads the studio's multidisciplinary projects, drawing on over 15 years' experience as a Chartered Landscape Architect. He also takes an active role in building strong relationships with our clients and consultants.

One of Matt's claims to fame was that he had schoolboy trials for Liverpool Football Club. Obviously he thought Landscape Architecture had better career prospects.

Gemma King Director

Gemma has over 15 years' experience of working in business development within the consultancy and construction sectors.

She is responsible for managing the business development function in line with the business plan, with particular emphasis on CRM, tenders, framework management and marketing and communications.

Mark Evans Associate

As a Chartered Landscape Architect with over 15 years' experience, Mark leads project delivery and specialises in Landscape Planning.

Marks's experience is vast and includes major education schemes and his planning and assessment work includes towers in Manchester city centre and a new university campus in Worcester. He is currently delivering a major housing scheme in Delamere and a TVIA for a new boathouse in Chiswick, London.

Sporty as a teenager, Mark played county football as a striker for Leicestershire and had ambitions to be a stuntman (The Fall Guy in particular) or a weatherman.

Ste Allan Associate

A very experienced and proactive Chartered Landscape Architect with a keen eye and passion for innovative design.

Ste has over 10 years' experience, during which time he has successfully delivered a diverse range of projects for a huge variety of clients, briefs and budgets. These include high quality public realm spaces, school projects, residential developments, heritage schemes, playgrounds, major infrastructure works, and award winning flower show gardens.

Not afraid of a challenge when it comes to fun fundraising – Ste has bungee jumped, skydived, abseiled, ran multiple Manchester 10k events, and made a fair few cakes over the years!

Amy Turner Senior Landscape Architect

Amy has over 10 years' professional experience in the landscape profession with significant public and private sector experience, including major education programmes and significant infrastructure projects.

Ever reliable, consistent and focused, Amy is very much the engine room of the team.

She loves a real ale, travelling off the beaten track and some pretty heavy music!

Andrew Lewthwaite Landscape Architect

Originally completing his year out placement at Urban Green, Andrew has now returned after graduating following his Masters degree. He is now looking to progress his career further by completing his Pathway to Chartership.

Outside of work Andrew enjoys visiting art galleries, making regular visits to Yorkshire Sculpture Park as well as fossil hunting on the Jurassic coast.

Kamila Tobola Landscape Architect

Kamila is an enthusiastic, detail-oriented Landscape Architect, and has led many high profile and complex masterplanning, public realm and housing development schemes.

In 2017, she graduated from Leeds Beckett University with a Master of Arts (with distinction) in Landscape Architecture and was also awarded the Landscape Institute Excellence Award for Master Degree Project.

In her free time Kamila can be found walking her two dogs; a golden retriever called Harper and a soft hearted Rottweiler/German Shepherd called Ellie, working in her veggie garden or renovating LuLU, an old motorhome which she takes on trips around the UK (for now).

Kamila also has a love of photography, an addiction to Instagram where she documents small but memorable moments of everyday life, her dogs and the beloved transformation of LuLU.

Rachel returns to Urban Green following a successful year out placement. She has recently graduated from The University of Sheffield and is now looking to progress her career further by completing the Pathway to Chartership. In her spare time, Rachel is a keen archer.

Lottie Clarke Graduate Urban Designer

Having come from a varied background of hospitality, tourism, and teaching, Lottie has a strong interest in people and making their days a little better. She has recently graduated with a Masters in Urban Design.

Born and raised in Switzerland, Lottie is a keen mountaineer, and most weekends can be found climbing in the Peak District and beyond. She is also a trained barista and can make a mean coffee.

Andy Bagshaw Principal Arboricultural Consultant

Andy began his arboricultural career as a groundsman/tree surgeon and completed his Foundation Degree in Arboriculture at Myerscough College.

Andy's love of everything arboriculture and the outdoors has seen him work for a reputable consultancy based in West Yorkshire for ten years and more recently at another in South Manchester.

Andy has been involved in several high profile surveys for both the public and private sector and has seen his work published by the Trees and Design Action Group.

His hobbies include running, which has seen him run the New York Marathon, travelling and being in the outdoors.

Robert Hickey Arboricultural Consultant

Rob joins Urban Green having spent 4 years in both consultancy and tree surgery as a groundsman/tree climber.

In his spare time, Rob partakes in network scouts, hiking, camping, gaming, badminton, indoor climbing, playing the guitar and drums. Key achievements include obtaining the Chief Scout Platinum Award and Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award.

Adam Hodgins Graduate Arboricultural Consultant

Adam starts Urban Green after seeking a career change, having recently completed his FdSc and BSc in Arboriculture and Tree Management/Urban Forestry at Myerscough College.

In his spare time, Adam has a keen interest in music, having played the drums for 18 years. Adam also enjoys fitness, cooking, reading and football.

Mark Blacker Senior Ecologist

Mark has 5 years' experience in ecology consultancy, working on a wide range of projects including infrastructure and flood management schemes. A generalist overall, he has a preference towards newts, badgers and botany.

In his spare time Mark enjoys rowing, cycling and walking in the Peak District.

Jake Healy Ecologist

Jake is recently completed a MSc Ecology and Environmental Management at Liverpool Hope University, having graduated with a BSc (Hons) Zoology at Liverpool John Moores University. He joined Urban Green having completed a successful survey season in 2020.

Jake is an avid supporter of Blackburn Rovers Football Club, and enjoys visiting the cinema, hiking and travelling.

Max Grindle Assistant Ecologist

As well as working as an assistant ecologist at Urban Green, Max is studying towards a MSc in Restoration Ecology at the Manchester Metropolitan University. He also holds a BSc in Environmental Science.

An avid musician, he has previously worked as a touring guitar technician and performed with a number of groups. In his spare time, Max loves to cycle (when the weather is nice!)

Shannon Brady Biodiversity Net Gain Consultant

Shannon joins Urban Green from City of Trees. She completed a BSc Marine Biology at Newcastle University and a MSc in Ecological Management and Conservation Biology at Queen’s University Belfast.

She spent 5 months travelling with her best friend around Cuba, Mexico, Central and South America and Asia and in her spare time she likes to run and enjoys knitting.

Matthew Cooper GIS Manager

Matthew has a masters in environmental science and is a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (RGS). He has previously worked as a GIS consultant within airspace industry, working on developments of national significance including Crossrail, HS2 and the proposed Heathrow expansion.

A keen spelunker and cyclist, Matthew has cycled from John O’Groats to Lands End. He's also twin and has an unhealthy plant obsession.

Charlie Lawler GIS Technician

Charlie graduated with a BSc in Physical Geography from Salford University in 2021. He has always had a fascination with the natural world and wanting to know how natural processes take place.

During his university modules he enjoyed how data manipulation can produce extremely informative maps for a variety of uses.

In his spare time, Charlie enjoys travelling and being outdoors and has a few different types of pets to look after at home.
