Plans for the redevelopment of Scunthorpe United’s Glanford Park into an 11,000-seater stadium are set to be given the go-ahead.
This follows the successful detailed planning consent on a new build stadium and mixed-use development nearby.
The focus is now on the existing location and Urban Green are working collaboratively with PWA Planning and FWP as architects to develop the masterplan.
Public consultation was held in June 2018 with proposals including a reconfiguration of the football stadium resulting in a capacity of 11,000 and an increase all four stands. Key worker accommodation is also proposed within the site to provide up to 160 units.
Car parking will be increased and access will be reconfigured to improve circulation and operations on events. Following tree and ecology surveys by Urban Green the proposals are seeking to retain the onsite trees and vegetation wherever possible and enhance with new planting to create Green Infrastructure that will create a park like setting to the stadium. Sustainable drainage and other enhancements will seek to achieve a net gain for habitat and biodiversity that responds to the local context.
Pedestrian movement to and from the surrounding residential areas, town centre and train station is key to the successful expansion and Urban Green have ensured clear connectivity to the existing footpath and cycle network, creation of key gateways and gathering points in and around the concourse provide legible, user friendly and functional spaces for people to use and enjoy.
