Located in the vibrant student area of Rusholme, Wilmslow Park is a short walk from The University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University. As part of a national refurbishment programme, Urban Green was appointed to uplift and refurbish external spaces to create exciting, usable outdoor courtyards and spaces for students at Wilmslow Park House.
Feasibility studies, site appraisals, stakeholder consultation and detailed design proposals were developed. Through the use of bold colours and ambitious use of levels, the design of the modern courtyard links to the recently built student social hub and gymnasium complex and creates an instant visual statement upon arrival. This is further strengthened and enhanced by linking internal users to the outdoors through the incorporation of fitness stations to create activity connections and unique social interactions.
Contract administrator duties were completed with Landscape Engineering as the appointed contractor.
The main challenges included a short construction period over the summer period in which to complete the works, liaising with contractors working on the building’s refurbishment which were running in parallel to the contract, working around retained elements and the drainage to the existing podium deck, all of which were overcome successfully.
