Landscape redevelopment improving connections to Bridgewater canal

The existing site, currently serving predominantly as a car park, is located adjacent to Bridgewater Canal.

The landscape design seeks to enhance the site’s relationship to the canal – providing direct pedestrian and cycle and access between Chester Road and Bridgewater Way. This core active travel route features rain gardens as well as a step and ramp system, which incorporates seating spaces and viewpoints.

Communal courtyards offer inviting garden spaces where residents can relax, connect, and foster a sense of community. Private gardens open onto semi-private circulation areas, creating a gentle transition between personal and shared spaces. Strategic tree and shrub planting provide a buffer from central social seating zones, further enhancing privacy and comfort.

Wherever feasible, mature vegetation along Edge Lane will be preserved to maintain the site’s established green character. This is further reinforced by feature tree planting in the north-western corner. Across the development, extensive new planting introduces vibrant, usable green spaces, with a plant palette selected not only for visual appeal but also to support local wildlife and biodiversity.
