Bats – Survey Season Ends Soon!

  • 12 Sep 2016 by Editor

Our Ecology team have been busy completing bat surveys as we come to the end of the season when climatic conditions are conducive to bat activity; normally April through September.

Did you know?

All 18 species of bat native to the UK are legally protected through their inclusion in Annex II of the EC Habitats Directive, which is enforced in England and Wales via the Habitats Regulations 2010. Disturbing bats or their roosts is a criminal offence.

Survey reports and mitigation plans are required for development projects that could affect protected species, as part of obtaining planning permission.  They need to show whether protected species are present in the area or nearby, and how they use the site along with mitigation plans of how this will be avoided, reduced or managed any negative effects to the protected species. A licence will be required from Natural England if damaging their habitats can’t be avoided.
