25,000 highway street trees surveyed to meet the local authority's duty of care

Urban Green surveyed over 25,000 highway trees using the visual tree assessment to meet Salford City Council’s duty of care.

This sensitive scheme required a pragmatic approach to tree risk assessment due to the many constraints posed by publicly owned trees including budgetary constraints, local resident perceptions regarding tree safety and interdepartmental pressures.

Using bespoke mobile application and GIS data collection, Urban Green verified the local authority’s existing tree data and surveyed their highway tree stock. Each tree/groups where accurately plotted. Recommendations on the prioritisation of future work and re-inspections were provided. The data was issued in a format that could be integrated into the local authority’s mapping system. This was supported by an interactive online map which provided a comprehensive, visual representation of their tree stock.

Paul Jones, Arboricultural Client Officer, Salford City Council said:

“Urban Green provided an accurate, timely and quality report for the urban forest project. They were very professional and we would use their services again in the future. ”
