Considering the ecology of a site at the outset of a project can reduce ecological impacts and the risk of costly delays.
Many ecology surveys are seasonal and can only be carried out at certain times of the year to be compliant, as shown on our survey calendar below:
A Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA / Phase 1) establishes the baseline conditions, evaluates the importance of any ecological features present on site and makes recommendations for any further surveys – species surveys are usually required to determine a planning application. If there is any existing survey data, this will likely be classed as out of date if more than 12 months old, thus updated surveys will be required to either confirm presence or likely absence, and/or to re-assess population sizes.
Our experienced ecologists will provide pragmatic advice within the relevant legislation to minimise ecological time constraints to your project.
