Are you an Ecologist with a minimum of 2 years' experience looking for a new role?

Urban Green is seeking a highly motivated Ecologist with a minimum of 2 years’ consultancy experience to join our team based in Manchester. Our Ecology team works for a wide range of clients across the UK within the residential, commercial, industrial, education and infrastructure sectors.

Urban Green is a multidisciplinary consultancy, working closely with each service to provide concise and ecological inspired packages for our clients.

The Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and delivering ecology projects to a high quality, drawing upon field experience and knowledge of the planning system. A technical focus is required, with excellent delivery experience and strong project management and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

These will include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading a portfolio of interesting and complex ecological projects from initial client liaison through to completion.
  • Managing and undertaking preliminary ecological appraisals and field surveys including bats, birds, badger, otters, great crested newts, water voles, reptiles.
  • Management and execution of mitigation requirements.
  • Communicating advice and recommendations resulting from surveys effectively to clients through written reports and verbal communication.
  • Support clients to navigate the planning and licensing processes.

Essential Requirements

The successful candidate must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience as an Ecologist.
  • Excellent knowledge of UK and EU wildlife legislation and policy.
  • Working knowledge of EIA and the planning process.
  • Experience of writing technical reports.
  • Excellent project management skills including experience of financial control of projects, strong client liaison abilities and coordinating a team effort.
  • Strong technical skills in one or more specialist areas.
  • Initiative and drive, with a positive attitude.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to work under pressure to deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work at all levels with colleagues and clients that fully support the company values.
  • A valid UK driving licence is essential for this role, as is the flexibility to work outside normal office hours and away from home as necessary.

Desirable Requirements

  • Named ecologist on EPSM and badger licences – bats / great crested newts.
  • Natural England Class 1 or 2 Bat Licence.
  • Proved experience of Habitat Regulations Assessments.
  • GIS proficiency.
  • Staff mentoring experience.
  • CIEEM membership.
