You will be responsible for delivering our Biodiversity Net Gain service. This will require fieldwork, as well as office-based duties. A technical focus is required, with excellent delivery experience and strong project management and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for (but not limited to):
Lead the Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) service offer for Urban Green
Lead, project management and produce BNG assessments from initial client liaison through to completion for a range of development projects.
Oversee the liaison with ecologists, GIS, landscape architects and the client to ensure the mitigation hierarchy can be delivered via development designs
Review BNG analysis and technical reports, ensuring they meet BNG good practice standards
Ensure efficient, cost-effective, and timely delivery of BNG projects
Maintain quality standards of assessments / reports through quality assurance
Maintain strong communication and relationships with clients, other consultants and internal teams.
Organise and deliver CPD events to clients, consultants and internal teams
Manage relationships with consultees such as Ecology units, Wildlife Trusts and land brokers.
Prepare fee proposals for BNG, where required
Carry out additional duties as may reasonably be required in this role.
Contribute to team resource planning and support the ecology team, if required
Essential Requirements
The successful candidate must meet the following minimum requirements:
A degree-level qualification in ecology or a relevant environmental discipline
Professional membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or working towards this qualification
Highly experienced in BNG using Natural England’s Biodiversity Metric 3.0
Experience of working in an ecology-related role; delivering field surveys including Phase 1 habitat survey, UK Habitat assessment, BNG condition assessment and protected species surveys
Experience in writing enhancement/management plans for a range of habitat types and able to align habitat management strategies to BNG target habitat types and condition scores
Attention to detail and the ability to deliver contracts on time and to budget
Experience of managing projects from inception through to completion
An excellent working knowledge of UK wildlife related law
Ability to design, lead and conduct field surveys
Appropriate licenses to conduct/oversee core ecological services
Ability to process data, to create and manage large datasets in GIS software
Ability to build rapport with clients, other consultants and colleagues
Self-motivated and reliable and an ability to work independently or as part of a team
Ability to follow scientific methodologies
Ability to manage your own time on projects
Business awareness and an ability to communicate effectively with clients
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Readiness to travel and stay away from home as required
A valid UK driving licence
